Facebook faces competition with Diaspora
August 27, 2010 No CommentsFacebook is one of the largest websites but it doesn’t mean that all users are happy with the service. The giant social networking site has come under heavy criticism from users to governments about the lack of privacy settings for users. It seems that all applications get access to your data for spamming purposes and it’s too difficult to stay private in any context. Facebook has upset many users in the start of 2010 by automatically enabling a privacy setting that allowed advertisers full access to your data.
The new competition will be called Diaspora which is Greek for a movement or migration of a group of people, hinting that these users will leave Facebook for an open sourced website that respects the users privacy.
For online marketers it is important to know the trends before they happen and there is a good chance many users will make the switch who are fed up with facebook.
