next time try royalty free images
February 7, 2010 No CommentsIf you need images for your website or perhaps even for a newspaper you might want to be extra cautious on where you get your images from. I always recommend you either buy images from sites like istockphoto.com or get them free by searching ‘royalty free images’ and see what you can get for free.
I understand people like to copy and steal from other sites but you might cause yourself some headaches. Take for example a Polish newspaper that wrote an article for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The author wanted to showcase the mascots and must have got their mascot images from Google images, big mistake! If you search for ‘vancouver olympic mascots’ you’ll find the offending photo on the 3rd page. If you’re not careful you might even find PETA’s version of the images. In case you don’t know or don’t see anything offensive about the article they used an image that someone super-imposed the pedobear with the mascots. Whoever made this mistake might lose their job and this reflects poorly on the newspaper itself and making headlines for the wrong reasons.
